What I Stand For
Growth in Wake County, including Apex is inevitable. How we grow our community is up to us. The core tenet of the policies that I support and new policies I’d like to develop center on the theme of what I call “Sustainable Development”. My sustainable development vision incorporates the following key attributes.
Deliberate Zoning
My goal is that, as we grow Apex, we do so thoughtfully and sustainably. I support an approach that creates a mix of high- and low-density residential developments, supplemented with attractive commercial development. By enforcing our zoning requirements we reflect our priorities to provide housing to people with varying income levels, protect and provide green spaces, and prioritize commercial development along major thoroughfare corridors.
Protection of Natural Resources
We only have one planet Earth. We are responsible to care for it so that future generations of Apex residents have the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of this region like we do today. My key objectives are to preserve green spaces, develop parklands, and stimulate replanting efforts to protect the tree canopy. Also, I'll be looking for ways to stimulate development of green energy initiatives such as solar installations and stimulate electrical vehicle usage.
Creative Traffic Management
Often transportation improvement focuses exclusively on increasing road capacity for motor vehicles by means of wider roads, turn lanes and the development of new roadways. This approach is rooted in the car-dependent culture of our nation. My focus will primarily be on improving transportation options, combined with creative traffic management solutions to maximize the safety and capacity of existing roadways.
Public Safety and Public Service
As our town grows we need to ensure that our public services and public safety departments keep pace with the needs of Apex residents. This requires continued investment in law enforcement, emergency services, Apex utilities, public works and administrative staff. I support these investments to maintain the top-notch services that these departments provide the Apex community every day.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
Lastly, but perhaps most importantly I will look to promote activities and legislation that ensures an environment in Apex that is open and welcoming to all. I aspire to create a town culture were we can live, work and play in an environment that is free of bias and prejudice, and where everybody is treated with equal respect.
